Thanksgiving Side Dish Inspiration

by feastonthecheap on November 17, 2011

Mariel here. Sure, my mom’s turkey is to-die-for – check out her tips on what to do and what NOT to do – but let’s be honest, it’s all about the side dishes. On what other day is it socially-acceptable to attend a formal dinner wearing elastic-waisted cargo pants – or cargo pants of any sort – and fill up your pockets with goodies galore. I love this day. My mom’s cooking is never more delicious and we do nothing but eat for five straight hours. Added bonus: Even though my parents divorced years ago, we usually celebrate the holiday en masse so the eating becomes semi-competitive but we get to enjoy it as one big happy family. Anyway, enough rambling, I’ve culled my favorite seasonal sides in the hopes that one or two might make its way to your table.

And who could forget hors d’oeuvres and desserts

  1. Potato and Canadian Bacon Galette with Sage & Gruyere
  2. Homemade Cranberry Chutney
  3. Carrot Ginger Soup with Candied Walnuts
  4. Wild Mushroom Soup
  5. Roasted Brussels Sprouts withe Crispy Pancetta & Garlic
  6. Homemade Applesauce
  7. Creamy Corn Pudding
  8. Portabella Mushroom Risotto with Fresh Thyme
  9. Creamy Butternut Squash Polenta with Fresh Parmesan
  10. Candied Sweet Potatoes
  11. Roasted Beets with Toasted Walnuts & Fresh Mint Drizzled with an Orange-Balsamic Syrup
  12. Curried Pumpkin Pie Soup
  13. Not pictured: Mom’s Cornbread Stuffing

What fabulous Thanksgiving sides! I need to take some photos this year so I can share some of my favorites next November. Now I’m re-thinking some of our veggies…thanks for the inspiration!
