Culinary Blog Tour

Mariel here. We were so honored to be featured as one of Rhonda‘s Top 3 favorite food blogs in her 3-Blog Tour. Rhonda runs The Kitchen Witch, which is an incredibly beautiful, thoughtful and well-photographed food blog. One part photographer, one part “culinarian” and one part motorcycle enthusiast, Rhonda is way more badass than your usual blogger but our stories aren’t all that dissimilar. The inspiration behind the launch of her blog was her own daughter’s website and it was intended to serve as a central hub for shared family recipes – all in line with what we’ve been doing over here at Feast. She says, “I cook mostly simple comfort foods wit bold flavors with an occasional endeavor into the complex and exotic,” which is also right up our alley. If you haven’t stopped by, you really should. And we highly recommend her Meyer Lemon and Sprouted Pesto or her Sun-Dried Tomato, Artichoke & Brie Tart.

The food blog world can be a pretty cozy community and we were more than happy to participate in a tag-team-tour that introduced people to new sites. So without further ado here are three stops that always incite food envy.

1. Once Upon a Recipe: We’ve been ogling – and enjoying – Amanda‘s recipes for about two years now. Whipping up incredibly flavorful recipes from the confines of a small kitchen in Canada, Amanda’s beautiful blog is never short on temptations. We’ve succumbed to her Brown Butter Cinnamon Roll Skillet Cake, Fire-Roasted Tomato Bisque, and best of all, her baked Apple & Brie in Puffed Pastry. We share a common bond with Amanda insofar as cooking is first and foremost a family affair. She writes, “I have many fond memories of baking with my Nana (my grandmother) and my mom and aunties. She also has a savage sweet tooth, which is evidenced by her button-busting compendium of desserts: “Baking is one of my favorite ways to unwind. There is something reassuring about the reliable science of baking – the fact that you can combine certain ingredients in particular quantities, set your oven to a specific temperature, and in a matter of minutes those ingredients create magic together.”

2. Teaspoon of Spice: Co-hosted by Deanna and Serena, these two food-loving dieticians cook for a combined five kids and two husbands so I can always rely on their site for a family-friendly, time-conscious meal. Both lovely ladies are often featured in the media and they serve on the board of several dietetic associations, dishing up tasty yet nutritious food tips. They offer an incredible selection of healthy twists on traditional comfort foods, but they’re not above sharing some of their favorite splurges, which I obviously admire. I frequently stop by their “Kids Favorites” section in their recipe index, but also be sure to check out Deanna & Serena’s Healthy Loaded Baked Potato Soup, Sesame Ginger Pickled Cucumbers, and Maple Bacon Scones.

3. Kiran Tarun: In addition to the absolutely awe-inspiring food photography, what keeps me coming back to Kiran‘s lovely blog are her wonderfully exotic recipes which blend her and her husband’s Indian and Malaysian heritages. Now an expat living in the US, Kiran chronicles her new(ish) world as a way to stay connected with her family back home. Her beautiful recipes are interspersed with thoughtful musings on her day-to-day life as a homemaker and I find that her site is always a peaceful place to land. I recommend her Autumn Apple Cider & Champagne Sangria, Truffled Mushroom & Potato Skillet Omelet, and Lemon Curd Tartlets, though choosing a few favorites amongst her many is nearly impossible.

Nice post, can’t believe I’ve been MIA for so long and am just getting around to reading this. It would be a New Year’s resolution to keep up with my blog reading if I did resolutions…

Hope you all had a Merry Christmas!
