The Highs and Lows
Feel like Filet Mignon but can only afford ground beef? Or maybe your spouse has invited your new in-laws (or boss, or stuffy maiden aunt…) to dinner on a Saturday night. And as much as you’ve been reining in on the take-out expenses and Saturday night restaurant splurges, we’re all still social creatures and need to entertain our friends or family and indulge in more lavish fare.
With this in mind, I decided it would be fun to take some of my pricier entertaining menus and see if I could achieve as sumptuous a meal for a fraction of the cost. The first installment was a huge hit when I prepared it for my daughter, her fiancé and his parents. So good in fact, they all agreed I need never buy another filet just so long as I used my marinade.
To follow is the original high-priced menu followed by the low-priced, but equally delicious alternative.
